Weldon B Long Memorial
The Dachshund Club of St. Louis is proud to present this memorial to honor Weldon B Long for his many years of service to the Sport of Pure Bred Dachshunds. Each Specialty Show winner of Best of Breed will have their names memorialized on a brass plaques on the base of this sculptural tribute to Weldon.
The Weldon B Long Memorial came about in late 2008 as a combined effort of the Dachshund Club of St. Louis and sculptor Joy Beckner, who is a member of our club. Joy donated her bronze sculpture “Dream Chasers-Best of Breed” that our club had mounted on a walnut base for the memorial. Joy’s design of the Dachshund Club of St. Louis, Inc. official logo, shows this sculpture in front of the St. Louis Arch. Weldon, who was Joy’s dachshund anatomy mentor, always said she had done the impossible by making these dogs look as if they are indeed “moving.” The three coats of Dachshund, Longhaired, Smooth, and Wirehaired are depicted very accurately. You may see “Dream Chaser” individuals and more of Joy's work at www.joybeckner.com

The Weldon B Long Memorial is not a challenge trophy. No one will "win" it, ever. It is a memorial and as such will not be advertised in the Premium List nor will it be seen in Catalogs in compliance with AKC Rules and Regulations.
